When you photograph a relative's wedding there’s always an added amount of pressure. For my cousin Jacqui, there was never any doubt that I would capture her wedding. I’m thrilled she and Nikki placed their complete trust in me. On the day it can be a little awkward to blend in as everyone stops to say hello, but they soon forgot I was there and normal service was resumed.
My day started at Sprowston Manor photographing Nikki and her sister in the garden. It was important for everything to run on time - which it did - so that Nikki could return to her room away from prying eyes and Jacqui’s arrival in a cool VW camper. Both ladies had kept their styling a secret and I loved how they expressed their personalities with touches of purple, orange and a cool veiled top hat.
Whilst Jacqui greeted their guests, Nikki was being manoeuvred upstairs for her reveal, descending down the main staircase to see Jacqui and their dads for the first time. They all walked in together and their ceremony was beautiful, swiftly followed by epic confetti.
The weather was fabulous and it was lovely to enjoy the sunshine and explore the manor’s grounds. On our recon meeting we’d spotted a few less used locations which evoked the countryside and felt a similar backdrop to where they walk their dogs. I’ve never been one to force locations as I’d rather use the light and reflect the couple in front of me. Waiting for the sun to drop and a natural lull in the day when they wouldn’t be missed, we created some beautiful personality rich portraits.
Kirsten and the team worked wonders to transform the Suffolk Suite in double quick time and I loved the simplicity of styling, especially the wild flower seed favours. The meal was tasty and speeches as emotional as expected. There’s been a huge hole left recently in the family and I know he would have loved celebrating with you and seeing you so happy. The evening disco was lively and it was great to join in for a little while. As I said at the start, capturing this special day was a huge honour for me and I wish you both all the happiness in the world. xx
